Mackey Sasser
Mackey Sasser has been my favorite player since I was seven or eight years old. While the initial reason was a little silly, I remained fond of the line-drive-hitting catcher who pulled off such unlikely feats as being the first Mets backstop to throw out Vince Coleman and robbing a pair of likely homeruns in one game during a rare start in right field. Unfortunately, a devastating collision at the plate short-circuited Sasser's best season in 1990 and would later lead to a brutal case of the yips that effectively ended his catching career. Despite having had a promising career derailed, Sasser remained in the game as a successful college coach and bravely discussed his prolonged battle with trauma in the 30 for 30 episode "Field of Fear."
